Since 1970, young beef bulls from all over Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest have been brought by top breeders to the University of Wisconsin Platteville Pioneer Farm in southwestern Wisconsin. Between 100 and 150 sire prospects are tested annually. Each bull on test will develop a 100-day performance proof. The top performing bulls are sold at auction on the first Saturday in April at the UW-Platteville farm with the auction carried live online thru DV Auction. The bulls are developed in a competitive environment designed to allow the premier performance genetics to rise to the top. Over five thousands bulls from over 250 consignors have been performance-tested over the years. Commercial and purebred breeders from across the United States, as well as major AI studs have purchased bulls from the annual WBIA auction. In 2012, a new ration and feeding method was implemented. The new ration has been well received. The bulls are now fed a roughage- based TMR-fed program. Fifty percent of the ration TDN is derived from corn silage and hay. The ration is balanced for .54Mcals of energy per pound of feed with an average gain target of 3.2 pounds daily. The ration is designed to allow for individual bulls to express their genetic growth potential in an unbiased environment. The bulls are fed ad libitum. The bulls will be ultrasound scanned for carcass merit, and all bulls selling will have passed a breeding soundness exam before the sale. An updated EPD profile and complete performance data along with video, will be provided for each bull. The WBIA looks forward to providing high quality performance tested Bulls for your breeding program. Enjoy browsing the website for further detailed information.
